Embedded Counselors

Some of our staff are located in different schools and colleges at U-M. To see a CAPS therapist in your school/college, please email them directly, and they will send you their online scheduling information.

What is an Embedded Counselor?

Embedded counselors are CAPS counselors placed in 18 different schools and colleges at U-M, known as the embedded model. An embedded therapist addresses the unique needs of their school's culture through confidential clinical service and tailored outreach, education, and prevention programs; engagement and consultation with faculty and staff; and the development of materials specifically tailored to each school and college.

What is the Goal of Embedded Counselors?

The goals of the model include increasing support for all U-M students’ mental health and wellness, including clinical, consultation, and prevention services, developmental issues, diagnosable illnesses, crisis intervention, and psychiatric emergencies, all while meeting the expressed needs of U-M deans, associate deans, faculty, and administrators in the schools and colleges for local, accessible intervention and prevention services for students.

Entering on State St. (closed in the summer of 2025 due to construction): take either of the elevators facing each other on the left side of the lobby in front of the Newnan Advising Center to the 4th floor.

Entering from the Diag: walk down the hall by following the red "Angell Hall" signs and turn right by following the sign "Elevator to Angell & Planetarium." Take either of the two elevators facing each other to the 4th floor.

Entering from the Museum of Art: turn left after you enter the building, following the red "Angell Hall" signs. Then, when you reach the end of the short hallway, turn right and walk until you pass the restrooms on your right, near the end of the long hallway. Take either of the elevators facing each other next to the men's room, to the 4th floor.

When you are on the 4th floor, take the wooden door on your right, which has a sign saying "Faculty Offices: 4th floor Angel Hall." My office is the first one in the smaller hallway behind the door.

Using stairs is not recommended for first-time visitors, as the room numbers can be very confusing.
