Tuition Refund Insurance Plan

About

Tuition insurance at the University of Michigan, offered by GradGuard, provides financial protection if a student has to withdraw due to a covered injury, illness, or mental health condition as advised by a licensed medical professional.

  • Enrollment for the 2025-26 school year begins on August 4, 2025. Tuition insurance must be purchased by the first day of classes of the insured term (August 25, 2025 for UM-Ann Arbor's fall term). Learn more and enroll here.
  • This plan may be especially useful if students have a health condition that could compromise their ability to complete a term. On the policy purchase date, the insured student must not have any symptoms of the pre-existing medical condition and must be medically able to attend school for the covered term.
  • The plan costs approximately 1% of tuition for full academic year coverage and refunds 100% of the insured term's tuition and fees. The plan’s cost is dependent on your overall individual tuition costs.
  • All registered U-M Ann Arbor students are eligible. GradGuard also offers separate policies for the Dearborn and Flint campuses.
  • Students can purchase coverage for multiple semesters at once generally up to approximately 300 days in advance of a semester.
