- Go to Uwill and register using your U-M email address. U-M students get six free sessions per year.
- Let's Talk is a free program that supports U-M students starting their mental health journeys. It provides casual meetings with counselors during specific drop-in times for initial support and advice at different times and locations across campus, Monday through Friday.
Counseling Appointment Options
Appointment with a CAPS Counselor
- Step one: Schedule an initial consultation through your patient portal (learn about setting up your portal here), visiting the CAPS office in the Michigan Union, or calling 734-764-8312. Initial consultations are usually phone visits, but can be done in-person or virtually by request (just call!).
- Step two: Have your initial consultation, which will be with a counselor who will work with you to determine the best next step in addressing your mental health needs. The counselor will help you schedule your first counseling appointment (which can be in person or virtual) or connect you to other services like group counseling, UWill, or referrals into the community.
Appointment with a CAPS Counselors in Your School or College
- UHC has therapists embedded in U-M’s schools and colleges. To schedule an appointment with an embedded counselor, email them directly.
Appointment with an Individual Peer Counselor
- Individual Peer Counselors (IPC) are trained in active listening by professional staff at CAPS. The IPC program connects students with someone of a similar age, interest, and background who can serve as a resource or simply someone to “rant” to. Please note: while Peer Counselors will keep all information private, IPC is not a substitute for confidential therapy provided by a licensed mental health CAPS staff member.
