What Type of Healthcare Do You Need?

Knowing what type of health care you need can save you time and money. Please note: the bulleted lists are just a few examples, however, not exhaustive.


NON-URGENT medical concerns.

Examples include:

  • Acne care
  • Contraception
  • Follow-up care for existing conditions
  • Prescriptions (new or renewal, unless urgent)
  • Vaccinations
  • Annual vision exams
  • Follow-up counseling appointment

URGENT medical concerns include minor illnesses and injuries that are time-sensitive but not life-threatening. 

Examples include:

  • Allergic reaction with widespread swelling/itching
  • Asthma not responding to usual medication
  • Fever ≥ 101° F (38.3° C) or lasting 2 or more days
  • Injury with significant pain and/or swelling, or that may require stitches
  • Possible fracture or dislocation; scrapes or burns with blisters
  • Severe sore throat
  • Significant or increasing pain, especially with fever
  • Urinary infection, especially with fever or back pain

MEDICAL EMERGENCY that may be life-threatening.

In case of emergency, CALL 911 OR GO TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. All fees would be your responsibility. 

Examples include:

  • Alcohol or other types of poisoning
  • Any condition that feels life-threatening
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Major injuries, such as a bone protruding through the skin
  • Severe difficulty breathing
  • Unconsciousness - unable to rouse

URGENT mental health concerns that are time-sensitive, but not life-threatening.

Examples include:

  • If someone close to you has died recently
  • If you have a difficult decision to make in the next 2-3 days
  • If you have been sexually assaulted within the past 72 hours
  • If you have been experiencing a lot of stress for a long time and feel like you really must speak with someone today

URGENT mental health concerns that may be life-threatening.

In case of emergency, CALL 911 OR GO TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. All fees would be your responsibility. 

  • If you are not feeling safe
  • If you might cause harm to yourself or others
