Contraception at UHC
UHC provides confidential contraception care for University of Michigan students, including counseling to help you choose a method that fits your body, schedule, and preferences. We offer prescription birth control options (pill, patch, ring, shot, diaphragm) as well as long-acting methods like IUDs and implants, with appointment-based insertion and pain/anxiety management options available. You can also access emergency contraception and pregnancy testing, with care available through UHC’s Gynecology & Sexual Health and Primary Care Clinics.

Birth Control Options
UHC offers counseling and prescriptions for a range of birth control methods so you can choose what fits your health needs and preferences. Options include the pill, patch, ring, shot, and diaphragm.
IUDs & Implants (LARC)
UHC provides long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), including IUDs and the implant, with appointment-based insertion. Pain and anxiety management options are available, and e-consults are available for IUDs and implants (Nexplanon).

Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception is available, including appointment-based IUD options (Mirena or ParaGard), which are the most effective form of EC. You can also purchase $10 emergency contraception over the counter at the UHC Pharmacy, and it may also be available in wellness vending machines and select Blue Markets.
Pregnancy Testing
UHC can provide pregnancy testing during a visit. Some people prefer home pregnancy tests because they are often faster.
Family Planning & Preconception Counseling
UHC offers family planning and preconception counseling to support your goals now or in the future. Medication abortion care is available up to 10 weeks of pregnancy.
Post-Sexual Assault Support (Trauma-informed Care)
UHC offers trauma-informed post-sexual assault services in an affirming and inclusive environment. This includes any testing and treatment you may need.
Safer Sex Supplies
Safer sex supplies, including free condoms and other materials, are available through Wolverine Wellness on the ground floor of the University Health Service building. Stop by to pick up supplies and learn about additional sexual health resources.

LARC Before You Leave! Schedule HERE
If you do not have insurance or are concerned about your ability to pay for the IUD or implant, there are now resources available to help you. Please be prepared to discuss this with the clinician at the appointment.
